Tom specializes in natural stone because it has a randomness to it that can only be created by nature and time. Tom also works with brick which is man made. One of Tom's pet peeves is to see other bricklayers placing stone in a manner that is just plain wrong. The incorrect placement shows up as long vertical seams of mortar that will result in a crack shorthly after job completion.

Tom always places a stone over a seam. Laymans terms I'm sure. You can recognize good brick work when one brick is placed directly over two bricks. Carry that concept to stone work and you have the beginnings of a quality stone structure.
